Which tableskirt fits your event?

A tableskirt is the difference between a bare folding table and a polished setting where guests take your venue seriously. But the three main types - pleated, box-pleat, and plain - each create a completely different atmosphere. Below you'll find which works when, plus sizing and pitfalls we see most often.

Pleated: the workhorse for most events

The pleated tableskirt is our best-selling skirt, and for good reason. The continuous pleats catch light and shadow, hide unevenness along the table edge, and look rich without becoming formal. For buffets, receptions, trade shows, and weddings, this is the safe choice that always looks good.

  • Atmosphere: warm, full, welcoming.
  • Suits: buffet, reception, trade show, wedding.
  • Maintenance: wrinkle-resistant, colorfast up to 60 degrees washing.
  • Note: measure the drop (height) separately from the length, otherwise the skirt will drag or be too short.

Box-pleat: crisp and formal

Box-pleat features symmetrical, block-shaped pleats and a heavier drape. The result is crisp and classical, exactly what you want at a gala, formal dinner, or conference where no wrinkle can show. The skirt hangs calmer than a pleated variant and creates a refined, understated appearance.

Tip from our sample studio. Pair a box-pleat skirt in a neutral color (ivory, champagne, or black) with a top cover in the same shade. This creates a seamless, monochromatic table look where floral arrangements and tableware command all the attention.

Plain: modern and minimal

A plain tableskirt has no pleats, just a straight, heavy drape. For sleek, modern events, product launches, or design conferences, that's exactly the point: no fuss, just a solid color block. Plain does require a quality fabric with sufficient weight, otherwise the drape will ripple and become restless instead.

Sizing: always measure length and drop separately

The most common mistake is ordering by table length alone. A tableskirt has two measurements that matter: the length (the total run around the table you want to cover) and the drop (the height from table edge to floor). Our standard skirts come in 410, 490, and 580 cm length with a drop that reaches just above the floor. Does your table differ? Our studio will make it to order within 10 working days.

A skirt that's slightly too short stands out more than no skirt at all. Measure twice rather than guess once.

Color: choose by contrast, not by preference

Color isn't chosen by what looks best in the catalog, but by the contrast with your tableware, flowers, and venue. White and ivory are neutral and always safe. Burgundy, petrol, and champagne add warmth and depth. Black is crisp but shows lint and wrinkles more easily, so save that for events where you can deploy fresh textiles. Unsure about a brand color? We match any Pantone in custom work.
